PRIVATE IVF & FERTILITY CONSULTATIONS

We offer confidential private consultations to help you decide the best and safest infertility treatment available

Initial Consultation

CREATE Health offers initial consultations for people who wish to discuss infertility treatment options in order to make an informed decision.

You should allow about an hour for your first consultation. During the appointment your medical history will be taken and you will have an examination. At this point, we will recommend a treatment plan for you.

Please remember that everything you tell your consultant is confidential. The purpose of this consultation is to obtain background information and determine if there are any underlying health problems that might affect a pregnancy.

If you have any information that you do not wish to disclose to your partner or GP please let the consultant know.

Please contact us to make an appointment for an initial consultation

Waiting Times

There may be a short wait for an appointment. However, following your initial consultation, which will enable you to make an informed decision, we can begin treatment in your following cycle if appropriate.

Treatment Consultation

This appointment will take place in the month before your planned treatment cycle. You will need to make this appointment at least two weeks in advance to ensure that we are able to schedule you an appropriate slot. You should allow 90 minutes for your treatment consultation.

You are requested to attend this appointment as a couple (if you have a partner). You will both need to bring a form of photographic identification such as your passport or NHS number. Please note that this is a legal requirement and we cannot commence your treatment without this information.

Pre-screening tests

You will be required to have pre-screening tests in advance of your treatment. If needed these tests can be taken at this appointment. Alternatively, you can visit your local GP to have these tests – please do so before the appointment as the results may not be available for some time.

It is our policy to test all couples for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C before they undergo treatment. Blood tests to assess ovarian reserve may also be required. If there is severe male factor infertility, blood tests are required to assess the male partner’s hormones and chromosomes.

These tests must be taken within 12 months at the time of egg collection. If you have had these tests within the last 12 months please bring paper copies of the results to the appointment. If you do not bring these results, a blood sample will be taken on the day, which will carry an additional cost.

Semen Sample

Before attending the consultation it is essential that you provide a semen sample for analysis so that we can fully assess both you and your partner.

Do not produce a semen sample soon after consuming a large amount of alcohol or after a significant illness such as a severe bout of flu, as both may have a temporary effect on semen quality.

Ideally the sample should be supplied at the centre – we have a room available for this purpose. If you are unable to produce a semen sample at the centre you can produce the sample at home – but please ensure that the sample arrives at the laboratory within an hour.

Consultation costs

  • The cost of an initial consultation is £185.

You are required to pay for your treatment cycle in full on the day of your treatment consultation. If payment is not made in full, we cannot guarantee a slot for your treatment cycle.

This payment will include the cost of your treatment cycle, HFEA fee, screening tests (as required) and any drugs taken away at this appointment.

Additional Information

A consultation is also important to discuss the role of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), consent forms, ethical issues, the welfare of the child, and the rights of the unborn child.

Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA)

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority Act 1990 (as amended), and the related Disclosure of Information Act 1992, introduced some major regulatory changes to clinical practice involving IVF treatment and/or the use of donor eggs and sperm.

All licensed centres must be registered with the HFEA – where each treatment is registered and a fee is charged by the HFEA. We will not be allowed to pass on information about your treatment to any one not covered by the HFEA license without your written permission.

You are also required to sign a ‘Disclosure of Identifying Information’ document to enable us to pass on any information about your fertility treatment to your doctor.

The HFEA also publishes detailed information on the use and storage of human gametes and embryos. Our centre provides you with these booklets and we recommend that you read them before signing consent forms.

Welfare of Child Questionnaires

We are obliged by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority Act to take all necessary steps to ensure that the welfare of any children who may be born as a result of treatment or of any existing children who may be affected by the birth are taken into account.

To help us fulfill this obligation, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire prior to starting treatment. And your doctor will be asked to complete a questionnaire and inform us of any concerns he/she may have.

Consent Forms

When your sub-fertility has been fully assessed you will be advised by the consultant as to the various treatment options. Once you have decided the most appropriate treatment option you will be asked to sign a consent form - for this reason, it is advisable that both partners attend induction.

NHS Referrals & Treatments

If your GP or local PCT is willing to send you to CREATE as a referral you can be treated as an NHS patient.
